Some bags of chips/crisps can be pretty high synned. So how can you make your own low syn version?
With one of these nifty little kitchen gadgets…
You may be asking what the hell is it?
Well it is a Chippy: With it you can make low fat crisps in the microwave without the need for any oil.
It comes with a nifty little potato slicer for slicing your potatoes.
Once you have sliced your potato (and I do recommend using a small size potato, as otherwise the slices will be to big for the tray). Lay the slices out on some kitchen paper or similar and add your seasoning. I used some sea salt for these ones, but you could try various other season mixes.
Then place one potato slice in each individual space and you are ready to cook them in the microwave. I would say these take approx 6 mins, but once you get to beyond 4 1/2 mins, you should keep an eye on them. They will have started to turn a golden/brown colour when they are ready, like the below picture:
Once you take them out of the microwave, removing them from the holder straight away and placing them in your bowl to cool down, as otherwise they will stick together.
Here is the bowl of the completed low fat Microwave crisps:
and as you can see, that is a rather satisfying portion, for a small potato and not many syns either.
Here are some season suggestions, add the mixed seasoning to a little ziplock bag and label, and you can just coat your crisps with a little bit as you want it. I recommend adding the season once the potatoes are cooked.
This is enough mix for a 2 person serving of fries (double up to serve more)
